Angry Haitian mobs have lynched at least 40 people in recent weeks, accusing them of spreading a cholera outbreak. Haiti's cholera death toll since the mid-October outbreak has reached 2591. Health ministry figures as of December 17, the most recent day recorded, showed that 121,518 people have been treated for the illness. The number included at least 14 suspected sorcerers previously known to have been lynched in the far southwestern region of Grand Anse as local people feared they were spreading cholera with a magical substance. Rumours that voodoo followers are to blame for Haiti's cholera outbreak trigger revenge attacks and murder. The majority of Haitians believe in and practice at least some aspects of voodoo. Most voodooists believe that their religion can coexist with Catholicism. The word vodou derives from vodũ, which in Fon, Ewe, and related language means spirit or divine creature. The cultural area of the Fon, Ewe, and Yoruba peoples share common metaphysical conceptions around a dual cosmological divine principle Nana Buluku, the God-Creator, and the vodou(s) or God-Actor(s), daughters and sons of the Creator's twin children Mawu (goddess of the moon) and Lisa (god of the sun). The God-Creator is the cosmogonical principle and does not trifle with the mundane; the vodou(s) are the God-Actor(s) who actually govern earthly issues.

Five other people were killed in similar circumstances elsewhere in the country. "The victims, most of them voodoo priests, were stoned or hacked with machetes before being burned in the street." Communications minister Marie-Laurence Lassegue said "voodoo practitioners have nothing to do with the cholera epidemic. We must press for an awareness campaign about the disease in the communities." Health ministry figures as of December 17 showed 121,518 people had been treated for the water-borne bacterial infection, including 63,711 who received hospital treatment. And in a sign there is no end in sight for the disease that has become a thorn in the side of the already deeply troubled nation, about 50 people died on each of the last five days recorded. At the outbreak's peak in November, there were daily death tolls of 60, 70 and even 80 and above.

Cholera is an infection of the small intestine caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The main symptoms are profuse watery diarrhea and vomiting. Transmission is primarily through consuming contaminated drinking water or food. The severity of the diarrhea and vomiting can lead to rapid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. The primary symptoms of cholera are profuse painless diarrhea and vomiting of clear fluid. These symptoms usually start suddenly, one to five days after ingestion of the bacteria. The diarrhea is frequently described as "rice water" in nature and may have a fishy odor. An untreated person with cholera may produce 10-20 liters of diarrhea a day. V. cholerae bacteria start up production of the hollow cylindrical protein flagellin to make flagella, the curly whip-like tails they rotate to propel themselves through the mucus of the small intestine. In most cases, cholera can be successfully treated with oral rehydration therapy (ORT), which is highly effective, safe, and simple to administer. Rice-based solutions are preferred to glucose-based ones due to greater efficacy. In severe cases with significant dehydration, intravenous rehydration may be necessary. Ringer's lactate is the preferred solution. Large volumes and continued replacement until diarrhea has subsided may be needed. Ten percent of a person's body weight in fluid may need to be given in the first two to four hours. If commercially produced oral rehydration solutions are too expensive or difficult to obtain, solutions can be made. One such recipe calls for 1 liter of boiled water, 1 teaspoon of salt, 8 teaspoons of sugar, and added mashed banana for potassium and to improve taste.

After the torrential rains brought by Hurricane Tomas.the spread of a deadly cholera outbreak got worst, they drank water from a river known to be contaminated with the cholera-causing bacteria. And, no, they don’t always have money to buy bottled water. Haitians use the Artibonite River and its tributaries for almost everything. Rice farming requires heavy water use, and irrigation ditches and branches from the Artibonite lace through here. The people cook with the water and wash clothes in it. And most alarmingly for those trying to check the spread of cholera, which is found in feces and spread through water, the people sometimes defecate in it.

The release of the Sony Reader, the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook made the sale of eBooks rise in popularity and profitability. This relatively new area of sales has dramatically changed the face and the future of book publishing. The economical and efficient way to produce an eBook is responsible for their popularity. A digital book does not have to go to a printer, the book does not have to be bound or shipped. This removes the middle-man companies from the publishing industry, lowering the cost of production. Now, a consumer can obtain an eBook quickly and at an extremely low price.

The low prices of digital books only help to increase their popularity in the face of this struggling economy. A hardcover copy of the popular book The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown costs $26.95 at Borders, while the eBook version only costs $11.99. The choice for most people is obvious. College students are also taking advantage of the lower prices. So far, English majors have benefitted the most, with many of the literary classics available for as low as 95 cents. However, books on biology, psychology, education, music and philosophy are now available in digital form. The digital developments in publishing have drastically decreased the financial burden on many students and there is no sign of slowing down.

I thought it would be good to share some of the advantages eBooks have over printed books.
1. They're quicker to obtain. If you want specific information and it's available in a book, you can purchase an eBook and download it immediately. Instead of waiting for a printed book to be delivered, you can assess this information now.
2. eBooks are more easily updated and upgraded. Information changes rapidly today. Books on many subjects can become dated very quickly. eBooks can be easily and quickly kept up to date. When you order an eBook, it can be the most up-to-the-minute information available.
3. You usually get far more than just the book. Most eBooks are sold with bonuses and related information that usually don't come with the purchase of a traditional book. You might pay the same or even a bit more for an eBook, but you usually get more, too.
4. eBooks take up less space. Instead of a bulky library, you can fit literally thousands of books on your computer. It also makes it easier to share this information with family and coworkers.
5. eBooks don't use up trees. Except when you print one out--something I usually do for booklets and special reports--eBooks use very few natural resources. We save trees and help reduce pollution from pulp mills.
6. They're more portable. You can have quick and easy access to hundreds of books on your desktop computer, notebook or eBook reader. They're much easier to take with you than traditional tomes.
7. References can be hot-linked. Easy links to Web sites and other references can be placed in an electronic book. While reading, you can click on hot links to other places to find out more. With the proliferation of wireless networks, this will become even more useful.
8. You can custom brand them. Other people's eBooks can be branded with your name and you can allow others to brand YOUR eBooks with THEIR name. There are many viral eBooks and reports that the creators will often allow you to give away or sell, with your name or company's name shown on the cover or linked at the end.
9. You can do global searches and find information quickly. When you're looking for certain information within a book, you can easily find it using the find feature. It saves you time and aggravation looking for something in particular.
10. The technology will get better. This is an emerging technology and people are often slow to change. But as the quality of monitors improve and become more compact and mobile, more and more we'll be reading electronic books.
11. Social Highlighting - Being able to highlight quotes and passages and easily find them again is a key feature that eBooks have over paper books.
12. Notes - The ability to create and then easily display archived notes is a big plus for eBooks. Instead of scribbling in small writing in the margins of a paper book, you can type a clear note in your eReader.
13. Look-up of words - Readers of poetry will know that modern poets like to use big and esoteric words. One can enjoyed tapping a word and having the definition displayed below. Very helpful and something that made me thankful.
14. Ability to Tweet & Facebook quotes - @Tooq commented via Twitter that he/she likes the ability to tweet or send to Facebook quotes from books, on the Kindle. This feature was introduced to Kindle 2.5 at the end of April.
15. Search - You can search for topics or keywords inside your eBook, or out on the Web. Similar to the word look-up feature, this is something that augments the reading experience.

I have been using ebook readers for many years, starting with my Palm and Pocket PC devices, laptops. One of the first things I did when my iPad arrived was load up the iBooks and Amazon Kindle applications. The physical book is seen as cumbersome and expensive in comparison to the weightless, cheap and easy to store eBooks. The release of the iPad this past June put pressure on the eReader market, and eReaders drastically dropped in price. Within the last year, hardcover book sales have plummeted. Books developed in an author's imagination are slowly becoming nothing more tangible than a gigabyte. Many mass sales companies are reporting that eBook sales are outnumbering the hardcopy versions. With the release of new technology and a decrease in the cost of eReaders, the digital trend is growing.

Apple iBooks - Apple’s client is visually one of the best I have ever seen in an ebook reader as they model the physical book experience with a wooden bookshelf background, physical page dimensions shown on the edges to give you a sense of depth, two page real book looking layout in landscape mode with a shadowed center spine area, and page turning animations. When you launch iBooks in landscape mode it will be clear to you that you are reading an ebook while other ebook applications still appear as if you are reading a document or web page.
While reading a book you will find options in the top right (tap once on the display) for brightness (slider bar), font type and size (5 font types and ten sizes), and opening up the search box. In the upper left are buttons for the library and table of contents. When you jump to view the table of contents then a red flag labeled Resume will appear over on the right so you can jump right back to where you were reading. Along the bottom you will find the page number, with total number of pages shown, along with a slider bar to quickly tap and slide to various parts of the book. To turn a page you simply slide your finger from right to left or left to right. Tapping, holding, and sliding along words in the book give you options for dictionary, bookmark, and search.

Amazon Kindle - I owned both first and second generation Amazon Kindle devices. The iPad application is pretty good, but the Kindle Store is not integrated into the application. When you launch the Amazon Kindle application (iTunes link) you will be given the option to login or create an account. Tapping on the info button brings up a menu that includes settings, help, about, learn, contact support, and more. The only settings here on the Home page are for registering your device and toggling basic reading mode on and off. When basic reading mode is off then you will see page turning animations appear as you read. When you select a book and go to start reading it then tapping on the book brings up a Home button in the top left, bookmark in top right, and bottom row of options. Here you will find option for going back, adding or removing bookmarks, Go to option (cover, table of contents, beginning, or specified location), view options with five font sizes, three background colors (black, white, and sepia), and brightness slider, and finally a sync icon to sync the book to the furthest read location. It is nice to see this Whispersync technology used here so you can read on different devices and not lose your place. Tapping and holding on a word brings up options to add a note or highlight to your ebook. To navigate forward and back in a book you simply slide your finger from right to left or left to right or tap the left or right side of the display. Pinch and zoom is supported on images and in other areas of the application. I like having a sepia background to reduce some of the contrast between black and white and the font looks fine to me. The application is fast and it was easy to get my purchased Kindle content onto the iPad. The Kindle library is quite large and it is great to see this on the iPad.

Kobo - Kobo started out life known as Shortcovers and has evolved into a powerful cross platform ebook client with corporate backing from Borders. You can find Kobo clients for the Mac, PC, iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm webOS, and Google Android platforms with a new HD client for the Apple iPad. You can also read their books on dedicated ebook reader devices that support Adobe Digital Editions and the DRM EPUB format. Tapping on the Store tab actually opens up a store in the Kobo application itself rather than taking you out to the web browser. Just Released titles appear with book covers along the top with options to scroll right and left to see more. You can tap on the bottom left to sort books by bestsellers, price (low to high), rating, title (A-Z or Z-A). When you tap the I’m Reading tab you will be taken to a pop up with black background and book covers on top of the books that you have opened on your bookshelf. You then tap the book you want to jump back into reading. The book opens up in nearly full screen with just the signal, time, and battery bar up top. Tapping once on the center area of text slides down and up toolbars at the top and bottom. Along the top toolbar you will find buttons for Back, Table of Contents, Overview, and Bookmarks. Along the bottom you will find a slider bar taking up most of the left that lets you quickly navigate in the book. Over on the right are icons for fonts, brightness, bookmarks, and toolbar wrench. Tapping the font icon shows you there are four available font sizes with a font size slider giving you the option to choose from nine font sizes. Tapping brightness lets you toggle the night reading mode (white text on black background) and also use a slider bar to adjust brightness. Tapping the bookmark icon sets a bookmark and tapping it again removes the bookmark. The wrench icon opens up display settings where you can turn Kobo styling on or off. Kobo styling enables font and margin styling optimized for the iPad screen, whereas leaving it off uses the publisher’s original styling. You can also choose a page transition style (none, page flip, page fade, and page curl). To turn pages you can tap the left or right side or slide your finger from left to right and right to left. Sliding up and down does nothing for navigation.

The aesthetic pleasures of physically holding a book cannot be replaced by digital technology. Sliding a finger across a computerized screen cannot compare to the anticipation of turning the pages of your favorite novel. Without hardcopy books, a library would only be rows of computers and eReaders. Publishing companies would have to shut down their printers and lay off their distributers, sacrificing thousands of jobs for progress. The new digital age is upon us and only moving forward.

An adult-film performer has tested positive for HIV at a Sherman Oaks clinic frequented by those in the porn industry, according to clinic staff.

"We do have a confirmed adult-industry performer who tested positive for HIV. We are quarantining and testing all exposed partners to the individual who tested positive for HIV," said Jennifer Miller, HIV/STD counselor at the AIM clinic in Sherman Oaks, where the person was tested.

Miller would not say the gender of the person, what companies he or she worked for, when the person was tested or whether AIM had notified state and county health officials.

"We’re doing what we can to notify the individuals involved," Miller said.

Many professional porn actors do get regularly tested, but tests are not commonly done for ALL available STDs. Some porn actors may be tested through their own doctors or clinics, whereas some may be tested through the business that employs them. I do not know if there are standards for such testing, or if video companies comply voluntarily with such standards. It is not an easy profession to regulate!

The positive HIV test is the first reported since last year when an adult-film actress, who industry officials said had worked rarely, was infected with the virus. No one else in the industry was infected as a result.

In much of the world vaginal sex is the most common way the virus is transmitted. HIV can be found in the blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid ("pre-cum"), or vaginal fluid of a person infected with the virus. The lining of the vagina can tear and allow HIV to enter the body. Direct absorption of HIV through the mucous membranes that line the vagina also is a possibility.
Through vaginal sex the male is at less risk for HIV transmission than is the female. However, HIV can enter the body of the male through his urethra (the opening at the tip of the penis) or through small cuts or open sores on the penis, making infection with HIV possible. The risk of HIV infection increases if you or your partner has a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

HIV can pose a small risk for both the active (person giving the oral stimulation) and receptive (person receiving oral stimulation) partner.

Transmission from an HIV positive receptive partner to an HIV negative active partner may occur when the active partner gets sexual fluid (semen or vaginal fluid) or blood (from menstruation or a wound somewhere in the genital or anal region) into a cut, sore, ulcer or area of inflammation somewhere in their mouth or throat. The linings of the mouth and throat are very resistant to viral infections such as HIV, so infection is unlikely if they are healthy.

Transmission from an HIV positive active partner to an HIV negative receptive partner is generally believed to be less common. This is because HIV is normally only present in saliva in very low levels that are not sufficient to cause infection. The only risk in this scenario would be from bleeding wounds or gums in the HIV positive person’s mouth or on their lips, which may transfer blood onto the mucous membranes of the other person’s genitals or anus, or into any cuts or sores they may have. Hepatitis C can also be transmitted this way.

An outbreak among performers in 2004 occurred when an HIV-positive male porn star, Darren James, infected three female performers with whom he'd filmed sex scenes. James, who had recently worked outside the U.S., was not aware of his positive status at the time he performed.

Dozens of performers who had contact with James and the three women needed additional testing, shutting down production for a month in the spring of 2004.

The case announced Tuesday may fuel the continuing controversy over whether the industry does enough to protect performers.

Much of the testing for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV is done at the AIM clinic.

Clinic officials, together with porn industry leaders, have long promoted regular testing of porn performers for sexually transmitted diseases an an effective way to prevent the spread of disease.

But Los Angeles County public health officials and state occupational health officials say the widespread lack of condom use on porn sets puts performers at risk for contracting HIV and other diseases.

HIV/AIDS, hepatitis A, B, and C, herpes, human papilloma virus (HPV), and syphilis, for example, all have variable incubation periods. Gonorrhea & chlamydia usually show up very quickly, within a few days after exposure, but the symptoms may be very mild and unnoticeable. And, if the tests are not done correctly, than someone may think they are okay when in fact they are infected with a test that came back "false negative." These are all potentially serious risks, and everyone must therefore weigh the benefits (usually monetary) against the risks which can be lifelong and chronic.

State officials are considering strengthening rules requiring condom use in adult movies filmed in California. The next meeting on the issue is scheduled for Oct. 25 in Oakland.

Although state officials maintain condoms already are required under workplace rules concerning the transmission of bodily fluids, they are rarely used in straight porn films because producers say they depress sales.

Elin Nordegren was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Her mother, Barbro Holmberg, is a politician and former Swedish migration and asylum policy minister. Her father, Thomas Nordegren, is a radio journalist who served as a bureau chief in Washington, D.C. Nordegren and her twin sister worked odd summer jobs and as cashiers in supermarkets to finance their studies. Amoco Cadiz
The Amoco Cadiz encountered stormy weather and ran aground off the coast of Brittany, France on March 16, 1978. Its entire cargo of 68.7 million gallons of oil spilled into the sea, polluting about 200 miles of Brittany’s coastline.

Arabian Gulf Spills
Beginning in late January of the 1991 Gulf War, the Iraqi Army destroyed tankers, oil terminals, and oil wells in Kuwait, causing the release of about 900,000,000 barrels of oil. This was the largest oil spill in history.

Argo Merchant
On December 15, 1976, the Argo Merchant ran aground on Fishing Rip (Nantucket Shoals), 29 nautical miles southeast of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts in high winds and ten foot seas. Six days later, the vessel broke apart and spilled its entire cargo of 7.7 million gallons of No. 6 fuel oil.

Barge Bouchard 155
On August 10, 1993, three ships collided in Tampa Bay, Florida: the barge Bouchard 155, the freighter Balsa 37, and the barge Ocean 255. The Bouchard 155 spilled an estimated 336,000 gallons of No. 6 fuel oil into Tampa Bay.

Barge Cibro Savannah
On March 6, 1990, the Cibro Savannah exploded and caught fire while departing the pier at the Citgo facility in Linden, New Jersey. About 127,000 gallons of oil remained unaccounted for after the incident. No one knows how much oil burned and how much spilled into the environment.

Burmah Agate
On November 1, 1979, the Burmah Agate collided with the freighter Mimosa southeast of Galveston Entrance in the Gulf of Mexico. The collision caused an explosion and a fire on the Burmah Agate that burned until January 8, 1980. An estimated 2.6 million gallons of oil were released into the environment, and another 7.8 million gallons were consumed by the fire.

Exxon Valdez
On March 24, 1989, the Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The tanker was traveling outside the normal shipping lanes in an attempt to avoid ice. It spilled 10.8 million gallons of oil (out of a total cargo of 53 million gallons) into the marine environment, and impacted more than 1,100 miles of non-continuous Alaskan coastline. State and Federal agencies continue to monitor the effects of this spill, which was the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

Ixtoc I
The 2-mile-deep exploratory well, Ixtoc I, blew out on June 3, 1979 in the Bay of Campeche off Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. By the time the well was brought under control in March, 1980, an estimated 140 million gallons of oil had spilled into the bay. The Ixtoc I spill is currently #2 on the all-time list of largest oil spills of all time.

Jupiter
On September 16, 1990, the tank vessel Jupiter was offloading gasoline at a refinery on the Saginaw River near Bay City, Michigan, when a fire started on board and the vessel exploded.

Megaborg
The Megaborg released 5.1 million gallons of oil as the result of a lightering accident and subsequent fire. The incident occurred 60 nautical miles south-southeast of Galveston, Texas on June 8, 1990.

Oil from the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico is starting to ooze along the Gulf Coast, threatening migrating birds, nesting pelicans and even river otters and mink along Louisiana's fragile islands and barrier marshes.

Talmadge Hayer, also known as Thomas Hagan, 69, was granted his formal release from custody on March 3. Hayer is the last man still imprisoned for the murder of Al Hajj Malik Shabazz, Malcolm X. Hayer 22-years-old when he was charged with the killing. The police rescued his ass from the Harlem's Audubon Ballroom after he had been shot and got a good ass whooping, BEDLAM STYLE.

Hayer was one of three men convicted of the shooting Malcolm X. The two other gunmen, Norman 3X Butler now known as Muhammad Abdul Aziz, was paroled in 1985. Thomas 15X Johnson now known as Khalil Islam, was released from prison in 1987.

On February 21, 1965, the black leader Malcolm X was assassinated as he started to address a rally in New York City. Malcolm was spokesman for Elijah Mohammed's Nation of Islam, he articulated a virulently anti-white program of black self-help. After a trip to Mecca, Malcolm broke with Elijah Mohammed and his anti-white policies to form an independent political

group expressing both national and international concerns.

Malcolm walked past a piano and a set of drums, looked up and said, “A salaam aleikum” and the audience replied “Wa aleikum salaam.” Then two men popped to their feet in the front rows of wooden folding chairs, one yelling at the other: “Get your hands off my pockets, don't be messing with my pockets.” Four of Malcolm's six bodyguards moved toward the pair; Malcolm said, “Now, now brothers, break it up,” he said softly. “Be cool, be calm.”

Then a man's sock, soaked in lighter fluid and set ablaze, flared in the rear. Heads swiveled, and as they did, Hayer moved toward the lectern in a crouch, unwrapped a sawed-off shotgun hidden in his coat. The gun shots rang out. The shotgun's charge ripped up through the lectern and into Malcolm's chest. From the left, near the spot where the two men had been squabbling, the pistols were discharged. Malcolm, blood on his face and chest, fell limply back over the chairs behind him. Malcolm's pregnant wife, Betty, rushed on stage screaming, “They're killing my husband!” People ducked under tables and dove to the floor as 30 plus shots were fired.

Hayer dashed down a side aisle to the stairway exit from the second floor ballroom. One of Malcolm's bodyguards shot Hayer in the thigh with a .45-caliber, screaming in pursut, “Don't let them kill him.” “Kill those bastards.” “Don't let him get away.” “Get him.” The ballroom crowd caught Hayer on the sidewalk, Kicked His Ass and broke his ankle before police rescued him. He was arrested outside the Audubon carrying a magazine from the .45 caliber pistol he

used during the attack. Malcolm's followers was seen bending over his body on the stage, their clothes stained with Malcolm's blood. Four policemen placed Malcolm's body on a stretcher and carried him through the crowd. The police said seven bullets had struck Malcolm.

Police said the shooting had apparently been a result of a feud between followers of Malcolm and members of Elijah Mohammed's Nation of Islam.

Radiation Risk Of Airport Full Body Scanners

Body scanners have revolutionized the practice of medicine since they were first introduced into routine clinical practice in 1974. Companies are coming out with faster scanners that take more comprehensive pictures. A millimeter wave scanner is a whole body imaging device used for airport security screening. It is one of two common technology used for body imaging; the other is the backscatter X-ray. In comparison to x-rays from medical applications, the backscattered x-rays are considered high energy. A "high energy x-ray beam" moves rapidly over the person's form and a high resolution image of the person's nude body. Here is the question, Are They Safe? There are no known “safe” doses of radiation in terms of radiation-induced cancer risk.

CT (computed tomography) scanners is a rotating x-ray device to create hundreds of individual images reconstructed into a three dimensional view of the body by computers. Many readers have heard of these scans. MRI technology also produces fast scans. MRI scanners also provide sharper, clearer images of the body. They help physicians detect cancerous tumors, debilitating diseases and other ailments at earlier stages of development. You may have heard the term ‘3T,’ the “T” in “3T” refers to “tesla” a unit used to measure the magnetic strength of the MRI scanners. Current CT scanners are able to image the entire human body within seconds, and provide high definition images with an incredibly detailed view of organs and tissues. Scanner use low doses of radiation, but many older machines rely on higher doses. Scanners are for particular procedures they are not standardized, and a wide variance in doses can be delivered to the subjects. Security scanners use millimeter waves, these are the scanners used in Airports. As these complex and powerful diagnostic imaging machines continued to grow, so will the potential risk of radiation-induced cancers from radiation exposure administered during body scans at Airport Security.

A number of private radiology imaging centers offer “body scans” for clinically healthy people who are interested in having their internal organs examined for any early signs of diseases. Physicians have become so dependent on these machines that they request a scan for many visits. The same theory has turned to airport security; a full body scan will be requested before boarding a plane, screening the healthy with low dosages of radiation. Medical implants such as cardiac and neural stimulation leads could be affected by the electrical field produced by a pulse generator and significantly alter (either increase or decrease) the waveform of a pacemakers pulse.

Airport Full Body Scanners work by Millimeter wave technology. This band has a wavelength of ten to one millimetre, giving it the name millimeter band or millimetre wave. These waves are considered Extremely High Frequency, the highest radio frequency band. EHF runs the range of frequencies from 30 to 300 gigahertz, they are also sometimes abbreviated MMW or mmW. These bands are also known as terahertz radiation. Terahertz radiation may interfere directly with DNA. The force generated is small but the waves disturb double-stranded DNA, creating bubbles in the double strand. These scanners provide exceptionally clear views of subjects by combining data from multiple X-ray images, but the increased exposure to X-rays, which cause mutations in DNA that, can lead to cancer. X-rays are considered ionizing (penetrating) radiation, ionizing radiation in any dose causes genetic mutations, which set all living cells exposed on the path to cancer. Cancers associated with high dose exposure include leukemia, breast, bladder, colon, liver, lung, esophagus, ovarian, multiple myeloma, prostate, nasal cavity/sinuses, pharyngeal, laryngeal, pancreatic and stomach cancers. Clothing and organic materials are translucent in most mm-wave bands. Perfect for detecting objects on subjects at airports. The scanner does allow the screener to see detailed images of body parts, as I explained with CT and MRI scanners.

Whole body scans of healthy people may be creating more problems than they solve by exposing healthy people to radiation. The risk for radiation over exposure may be small for single subject, but the number subject exposed to airport body scans will increase they risk by the millions. A normal CT scan of the chest is the equivalent of about 100 chest X-rays. Some scanners are equivalent of 440 conventional X-rays. The traditional X-ray machine detects hard and soft materials by the variation in transmission through the target. The backscatter X-ray detects the radiation that reflects back from the target. Several studies have suggested that people have been unnecessarily exposed to radiation from CTs or have received excessive amounts of radiation. A person undergoing a backscatter scan receives approximately 0.005 – 0.009 millirems of radiation. 1 mrem per year is a negligible dose of radiation, and 25 mrem per year from a single source is the upper limit of safe radiation exposure. Widespread overuse of body scanners and variations in radiation caused by different machines could subject many to radiation doses that could ultimately lead to thousands of new cancer cases and deaths.

Confusing two medications with similar names: Confusion caused by similar drug names accounts for up to 25 percent of all reported errors. The doctor's handwriting is illegible, or the name goes into the pharmacy computer incorrectly, or the swap occurs when the wrong drug is pulled from the shelves. Most pharmacies shelve drugs in alphabetical order, so you have drugs with similar names right next to each other. It’s easy to grab the wrong medication. Solution: When you get a new prescription, ask your doctor to write down what it's for as well as the name and dosage. When you're picking up a prescription at the pharmacy, check the label to make sure the name of the drug (brand or generic), dosage, and directions for use are the same as those on the prescription.

Taking two or more drugs that magnify each other's potential side effects: Drugs can interfere with each other, they can magnify each other, or one drug can magnify a side effect caused by another drug. Any drug you take has potential side effects. But the problems can really add up whenever you take two or more medications at the same time. The most common and most dangerous of these magnification interactions involve blood pressure and dizziness. If you're taking one medication that has a potential side effect of raising blood pressure, and you then begin taking a second medication with the same possible effect, your blood pressure could spike dangerously from the combination of the two. The same applies with medication with dizziness side effects. Be careful if you've been prescribed the blood-thinner Coumadin (warfarin). Too much or too little Coumadin could lead to serious heart problems such as arrhythmias or a stroke. Solution: Ask your doctor or a pharmacist about potential side effects when you get a new prescription, and make sure the pharmacy gives you written printouts about the medication to review later.

Overdosing by combining more than one medication with similar properties: You might have one medication prescribed to treat pain, another prescribed for anxiety, and another that's given as a sleeping pill, they're all sedatives, and the combined effect is toxic. The risk for this kind of overdose is highest with drugs that function by depressing the central nervous system. These include narcotic painkillers such as codeine; benzodiazepines such as Ativan, Halcion, Xanax, and Valium; barbiturate tranquilizers such as Seconal; some of the newer drugs such as BuSpar, for anxiety; and the popular sleeping pill Ambien. Oversedation can also happen with innocent over-the-counter drugs like antihistamines (diphenhydramine, commonly known as Benadryl, cough and cold medicines, and OTC sleeping pills. This type of drug mixing is responsible for many medication-induced deaths, especially among younger adults. Solution: Pay attention to the warnings on the packaging of over-the-counter medications, and the risks listed in the documentation for prescriptions. Key words are sleepy, drowsy, dizzy, sedation, and their equivalents. If more than one of your prescriptions or OTC drugs warns against taking it while driving, or warns that it can make you drowsy, beware.

Getting the Dosage wrong: Drugs are prescribed in a variety of units of measure, units that are usually notated using abbreviations or symbols. A misplaced decimal point and 1.0 mg becomes 10 mg, a tenfold dosing error that could cause a fatal overdose. Some of the most extreme dosage mistakes occur when someone mistakes a dose in milligrams with one in micrograms, resulting in a dose 1,000 times higher. Insulin causes some of the worst medication errors because it's measured in units, abbreviated with a U, which can look like a zero or a 4. Another common problem is getting the frequency wrong, a drug that is supposed to be given once a day is given four times a day. Solution: Make sure your doctor's writing is clear on the original prescription, if you can't read the dosage indicated, chances are the nurse and pharmacist cannot as well. Ask the pharmacist to check the dosage to make sure it's within the range that's typical for that medication. In the hospital, question your nurse about a new medications, and dosages. Don't be afraid to speak up if you think you're about to get the wrong medicine or the wrong dose.

Mixing alcohol with medications: There are plenty of drugs that come with that bright orange warning sticker attached, telling you not to drink when taking them. The sticker can fall off, or not get attached in the first place, or you might just really need a drink. Alcohol, combined with a long list of painkillers, sedatives, and other medications, becomes a deadly poison in these situations. Alcohol can also have a dangerous interaction with OTC drugs such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and cough and cold medicines. If the cough or cold medicines themselves contain alcohol, you can end up with alcohol poisoning. Mix alcohol and certain antidepressants and you have the potential for a dangerous rise in blood pressure, alcohol and certain sedatives such as Ativan or Valium can depress the heart rate enough to put you in a coma. Solution: When you get a new prescription, ask your doctor or a pharmacist if the medication is safe to take while drinking alcohol. If you're a heavy drinker and you know it's likely you'll drink while taking the medication, tell your doctor. She may need to prescribe something else instead. Read the labels of all OTC medications carefully, both to see if alcohol is mentioned as a risk and also to see if alcohol is an ingredient in the medication itself.

Double-dosing by taking a brand-name drug and the generic version at the same time: It’s common for you to get confused and end up with bottles of a brand-name drug and a generic version at the same time without realizing it. A common diuretic is furosemide. The brand name is Lasix. A patient might have a bottle of furosemide and a bottle of Lasix and not know they're the same thing. Generic drugs don't list the equivalent brand name on the label, you might not spot this unless your brand-name version lists the generic name in the fine print. Solution: When your doctor prescribes a new medication, make sure you have a chance to go over all the details you might need to know later. Have the doctor write down the name of the drug (brand and generic, if available), what it's for, its dosage, and how often and when to take it.

Taking prescription drugs and over-the-counter or alternative medications without knowing how they interact: Don’t think that medican from your local grocery or drug store are safe. Some of the most common OTC drugs can cause serious reactions. The new and very popular version of Maalox Total Relief, contains an ingredient called bismuth subsalicylate that can react dangerously with anticlotting drugs, drugs for hypoglycemia, and anti-inflammatories, particularly ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, or NSAIDs. Aspirin, thins the blood. The herb Saint-John's-wort, which many people take for depression, can interfere with prescription antidepressants and it also interferes with the liver's processing of blood thinners such as Coumadin (warfarin) and heart medications such as Digoxin. Solution: Let your doctor know about any OTC meds or supplements you take when they write your prescription.

Not understanding interactions between medications and your diet: Grapefruit juice inhibits a crucial enzyme that normally functions to break down and metabolize many drugs, such as antiseizure drugs and statins used to lower cholesterol. The liver can't metabolize the medication, resulting in an overdose, with potentially fatal consequences. Coffee inhibits absorption. Coffee drinkers who take their iron in the morning may not see any results because the iron wasn’t absorbed. Solution: When you get a new prescription, ask your doctor or a pharmacist whether you should take it with food, without food, and if there are any particular dietary issues to watch out for.

Failing to adjust medication dosages when a patient loses kidney or liver function: Loss of liver or kidney function impairs your body's ability to rid itself of toxins, or foreign substances, so medications can build up in the body at higher dosages than intended. Decreasing medication dosages when patients begin to suffer impaired kidney or liver function is a common mistake doctors make. Doctors shouldn't prescribe any medications without first ordering liver and kidney function tests. Solution: With new prescriptions, read the fine print to see if liver or kidney function is mentioned. If so, ask your doctor if you've had recent liver and kidney function screenings.

Taking a medication that's not safe for your age: As we age, our bodies process medications differently. Aging brings an increased risk of many problems such as dementia, dizziness, falling, and high blood pressure, so drugs that can cause these side effects are much riskier for people over the age of 65. The "Beers List," is a great resource if you or someone you're caring for is over 65. Solution: Take the Beers List to your doctor and check it against all medications prescribed. If you discover that you or a family member over 65 is taking medications that are considered risky, you may need to be proactive and ask the doctor to find alternatives.

Leishmaniasis is one of the top neglected diseases soldiers have been diagnosed with since deployment to Afghanistan or Iraq. Found in 88 countries worldwide, treatment is expensive and the availability of therapies is often scarce. A major outbreak in 2003 left deep ulcers caused by the parasites known as the "baghdad boil" among troops. Leishmaniasis is caused by a parasitic protozoans of the genus Leishmania, transmitted by the bites of sand flies. They infect white blood cells that normally would defend the body from such invaders. There are two forms of leishmaniasis. The more serious, called kala-azar or visceral leishmaniasis (black fever), affects the internal organs, causing fever, anemia, splenomegaly, and discoloration of the skin. Untreated, it can be fatal. The second, or cutaneous leishmaniasis, leaves deep, disfiguring sores at the site of the bite. The sand flies that spread the parasites are carried by animals including dogs and a species of gerbil, as well as people. The insects often breed on waste land and in rubbish.

People with cutaneous leishmaniasis have one or more sores on their skin. The sores can change in size and appearance over time. They may end up with a raised edge and central crater (ulcer). The sores can be painless or painful. Some people have swollen glands near the sores. People with visceral leishmaniasis usually have fever, weight loss, and an enlarged spleen and liver. They may have abnormal blood tests, low blood counts, including a low red blood cell count (anemia), low white blood cell count, and low platelet count. The complete 5284-nucleotide sequence of the double-stranded RNA genome of leishmania RNA virus 1 (LRV1) contains three open reading frames (ORFs) on the plus (+) (mRNA) strand. Similar to the RNA binding properties of synthetic and recombinant HIV-1 nucleocapsid protein (NCp7) and fragments observed in the 5'-HIV-1 RNA. ORFs may encode the major viral coat protein, overlapping ORF-3 by 71 nucleotides. The HIV viral genome mutates at a high rate. As the worldwide rate of HIV infection increases, the need for a leishmaniasis vaccine needs to becomes more urgent. In an IFA test, HIV antigen is mixed with a fluorescent compound and then with a sample of the patient's blood, testing were positive for Leishmania. Leishmaniasis accelerates the onset and worsens the course for people infected with HIV. Leishmaniasis is a spectrum of diseases, each distinctly manifested and all with potentially devastating consequences. Treatment of leishmaniasis requires the administration of toxic and poorly tolerated drugs.

In October 2002, well prior to the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, the US Defense Intelligence Agency's Armed Forces Medical Intelligence Center (AFMIC) warned that leishmaniasis would be a danger for troops. Insect repellant and bed nets were frequently in short supply, and commanders failed to emphasize the risk of Leishmaniasis. Almost all of the people in the United States who have leishmaniasis became infected while traveling or living in other countries. Over 90 percent of the cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis occur in parts of Afghanistan, Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Brazil and Peru. Over 90 percent of the cases of visceral leishmaniasis occur in parts of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sudan, and Brazil. The World Health Organization estimates that 12 million people worldwide are infected with leishmaniasis. The WHO says that the public health impact of this disease has been grossly underestimated. During the past 10 years, endemic areas have been spreading, with 350 million people thought to be at risk of infection. Antiparasitic pentavalent antimonials, such as sodium stibogluconate (Pentostam) or meglumine antimoniate, are the mainstays of therapy.

Sodium stibogluconate was the only recommended treatment in the United States and was available only through the CDC, but amphotericin B in its liposomal form has recently been approved and is now considered to be the drug of choice for visceral leishmaniasis because of its shorter course and lower toxicity. Treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis differs according to the etiology and geographic location of the infection. For certain types where the potential for mucosal spread is low, topical paromycin can be used. For more invasive lesions sodium stibogluconate, meglumine antimonate, or pentamidine can be used. Amphotericin B deoxycholate may be first-line therapy for advanced mucosal disease. Visceral leishmaniasis, treatment with a pentavalent antimonial compound usually is effective, outside of India. Transfusions may be necessary for severe bleeding or anemia. Antibiotics are indicated to treat intercurrent infectious conditions. A major advance has been the advent of liposomal formulations of amphotericin B, in which various alternative lipids have replaced deoxycholate. These formulations, which passively target amphotericin to macrophage-rich organs, are much more costly than conventional amphotericin B. Miltefosine, a chemotherapeutic agent, is the first extremely effective oral agent for visceral leishmaniasis.

President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. Speculation had focused on Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, a Colombian senator and a Chinese dissident, along with an Afghan woman's rights activist.

In his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses. Nobel was a Swedish chemist, engineer, innovator, armaments manufacturer and the inventor of dynamite. He owned Bofors, a major armaments manufacturer, which he had redirected from its previous role as an iron and steel mill. The synthetic element nobelium was named after him. Nobel found that when nitroglycerin was incorporated in an absorbent inert substance like kieselguhr it became safer and more convenient to handle, and this mixture he patented in 1867 as 'dynamite'. Nobel demonstrated his explosive for the first time that year, at a quarry in Redhill, Surrey, England.

Nominations for the Prize may be made by a broad array of qualified individuals, including former recipients, members of national assemblies and congresses, university professors, international judges, and special advisors to the Prize Committee. In 2009, a record 205 nominations were received. The Committee keeps the nominations secret and asks that nominators do the same. It is not immediately apparent who nominated Obama.

This makes me sick. Sick, Sick, SICK. The driver that’s too busy talking or texting on a cell phone that he/she cannot has lost their attention driving. You see these drivers every day. They weave in and out of lines, run lights, ride your tail, HAVE ACCIDENTS.

That’s right, they’re so busy yacking they hit something. Cell phones have become an essential feature of modern life. In June 2004, about 170 million Americans had a cell phone, an increase of more than 20 million from 2003. About two out of every three drivers now have a cell phone. Cell phone talking/texting is the number 1 driver distraction. Drivers who don’t pay attention or are distracted are three times as likely to be involved in a crash as drivers who pay attention to the road and talk/text on a phone.

Almost 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near misses occur within three seconds of some form of driver distraction. The number of crashes and near-crashes attributable to dialing is nearly identical to the number associated with talking or listening, dialing is more dangerous but occurs less often than talking or listening. The effect of phone use upon the perceptual responses of drivers is likely to constitute a greater threat to safety than its interference with vehicle control. Perceptual processes play a far greater role in automobile accidents than does vehicle control. "Improper lookout" and "inattention" are the two leading contributors to automobile accidents.

Those who talk on a cell phone while driving are four times as likely to get in a car accident as those who do not talk on the phone while driving. Some states or local jurisdictions expressly prohibit novice drivers from talking on a cell phone while driving. Novice drivers are those with learner’s permits and restricted driving privileges. In states like Alaska, California, Connecticut, Louisiana, Minnesota, and New Jersey texting while driving is against the law. The District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, prohibit handheld cell phone use while driving. Several States prohibit all cell phone use by drivers under the age of 18 or 21, drivers with a GDL, and school bus drivers.

A jurisdiction-wide ban on driving while talking on a hand-held cellphone is in place in 7 states (California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Utah, and Washington) and the District of Columbia. Utah has named the offense careless driving. Under the Utah law, no one commits an offense when speaking on a cellphone unless they are also committing some other moving violation other than speeding. The law in 5 states Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, and Pennsylvania specifically authorizes a locality to ban cellphone use. Localities that have enacted restrictions on cellphone use include: Chicago, IL; Brookline, MA; Detroit, MI; Santa Fe, NM; Brooklyn, North Olmstead, and Walton Hills, OH; Conshohocken, Lebanon, and West Conshohocken, PA; Waupaca County, WI; and Oahu, HI. Localities are prohibited from banning cellphone use in 8 states (Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Utah). Text messaging is banned for all drivers in 18 states and the District of Columbia. Thirteen cases of Bubonic Plague have been recorded in Libya. Bubonic Plague is primarily a disease of rodents and their fleas, which can infect humans. It is transmitted between rodents by rodent fleas, and can be transmitted to people when infected rodent fleas bite them. It is a very severe disease in people, with case fatality rates of 50-60 percent if left untreated. A search for BPWMD vials have been in operation for over 12 years. Rumors of the Bubonic Plague being sent to Libya has been circulation for years.

A prime objective to create a weapon that could destroy millions has always been under the radar. Y. pestis becomes highly transmissible during coughing, and the bacteria can be easily inhaled, causing a primary pneumonic infection in a new host. Both systemic and pneumonic plague produces high mortality rates because of rapid proliferation of bacteria and quick onset of disease pathology.

This outbreak has prompted the Libyan government to call for an investigation of the cases by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO will investigate deaths, not the Oca (oligomeric coiled-coil adhesins) or Vc family of proteins used as a subset of autotransporters. The putative promoter region of the Y. pestis yadBC operon can be amplified with primers P1 and P2 from SpeI-digested genomic DNA and cloned into KpnI/Acc65I-digested pBSlacZMCS to create a yadBC promoter-lacZ fusion giving you a pBS-PyadBC-lacZ, change that to the E. coli host S17-1, then conjugated into Y. pestis CO92.S1 to obtain strain CO92.S10 or into Y. pestis CO99-3015.S1 to obtain strain CO99-3015.S4.

This is a highly virulent pathogen because of its ability to escape the host immune system and rapidly proliferate within host tissues. It goes under the radar, E. coli pops up from the GST-YadB and GST-YadC antigens. WHO has to focus on putative structural analogs of YadA to find their lethality in this bubonic plague strains. The Vacuum Bombs also known as Thermobaric bombs. Are environmentally friendly, compared to nuclear bombs. The term thermobaric is derived from the Greek words for thermo means “heat” and baric means “pressure”. They are also called high-impulse thermobaric weapons ‘HITs’, fuel-air explosives ‘FAE or FAX’ or sometimes fuel-air munitions, heat and pressure weapons. The explosion of these bombs release tremendous heat and sonic pressure waves along with powerful vacuums and over pressure level similar to a nuclear bomb.

Vacuum bomb uses atmospheric oxygen, instead of carrying an oxidizer in their explosives. The effects are similar to the effects produced by low-yield nuclear weapons, but without radiation problems. The explosives used in the thermobaric bombs are oxygen deficient and they suck oxygen from air for complete combustion of the dispersed parts of the bomb. The rapidly expanding wave front due to over pressure flattens all objects within close proximity. This process can generate more energy than the nuclear and conventional bombs. The bomb explodes in mid-air and its destructive power comes from extremely high temperatures and aftershocks, which incinerate everything nearby.

A thermobaric weapon works in two stages. The first stage, a cloud of powder or liquid explosive is dispersed in the space. The cloud gets mixed with atmospheric oxygen. Once the fuel is appropriately mixed with oxygen, the second charge detonates, the second stage. Within the detonation, the pressure can reach up to 3 million Pascal (MPa) and the temperature is raised between 2500 and 3000°C. The pressure drops below atmospheric pressure creating airflow back to the center of the explosion (epicenter). It draws in the unexploded burning fuel to create complete penetration of all non-airtight objects within the blast radius, which are then incinerated. Some thermobaric weapons are designed not to disperse fuel before igniting it, but are single-stage bombs having one explosive charge that both ignites and disperses the fuel.

Malcolm Little, the son of an African American Baptist preacher, Earl Little, was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on 19th May, 1925.

Little moved to Boston to live with his sister. In 1946 he was convicted of burglary and sentenced to ten years imprisonment. While in prison he was converted to the Black Muslim faith. Little visited Elijah Muhammad in Chicago, Illinois. Then, like many members of the Nation of Islam, he changed his surname to "X". Malcolm X was named assistant minister of the Nation of Islam's Temple Number One in Detroit. By late 1953, he established Boston's Temple Number Eleven. In March 1954, Malcolm X expanded Temple Number Twelve in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Two months later he was selected to lead the Nation of Islam's Temple Number Seven in Harlem. He rapidly expanded its membership. From his adoption of the Nation of Islam in 1952 until he left the organization in 1964, Malcolm X promoted the Nation's teachings.

In March 1964 Malcolm left the Nation of Islam and established his own religious organization, the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Malcolm X spoke before a wide variety of audiences in the United States. He spoke at regular meetings of Muslim Mosque, Inc., and the Organization of Afro-American Unity. He was one of the most sought-after speakers on college campuses. After a pilgrimage to Mecca, Malcolm rejected his former separatist beliefs and advocated world brotherhood. Malcolm now blamed racism on Western culture and urged African Americans to join with sympathetic whites to bring to an end. The Nation of Islam and its leaders began making threats against Malcolm X both in private and in public.

On March 1964, Malcolm X publicly announced his break from the Nation of Islam. He said that he was still a Muslim, but he felt the Nation of Islam had "gone as far as it can" because of its rigid religious teachings. Malcolm X founded Muslim Mosque, Inc., a religious organization, and the Organization of Afro-American Unity, a secular group that advocated black nationalism. Malcolm X made a speech titled "The Ballot or the Bullet" in which he advised African-Americans to exercise their right to vote wisely. Several Sunni Muslims encouraged Malcolm X to learn about Islam. Soon he converted to Sunni Islam, and decided to make his pilgrimage to Mecca.

On February 21, 1965, in Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom, Malcolm X began to speak to a meeting of the Organization of Afro-American Unity when a disturbance broke out in the crowd. A man yelled, "Nigger! Get your hand outta my pocket!" As Malcolm X and his bodyguards moved to quiet the disturbance, a man rushed forward and shot Malcolm X in the chest with a sawed-off shotgun. Two other men charged the stage and fired handguns, hitting him 16 times. Malcolm X was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

Cell phones, getting worst than ever.

I have pass the drivers that cannot maneuver through morning/evening traffic because they’re on the phone. The loud talker in line that wants everyone to hear his/her conversation. People interacting at checkout lines talking on the cell phone, no common courtesy. The bluetooth ear pieces, please, If you are that important you need to be at your desk taking care of your business.

Most of us cannot function without our phones. My first mobile phone was one that was mounted in the trunk of my car sometime around 1986/1988. At that time everyone didn’t have these gadgets and it was the show stopper for those that had one. I always had phone etiquette, was never disrespectful when others were in the car, didn’t run to the car when the horn went off, (it was hooked to the horn as a ring tone) and I kept it off most of the time. Today I keep my phone in the car (I think 12 people have my number).

Im amazed that a phone will make us do the unbelievable. The phone will make you stand outside during a tornado watches, hurricanes, floods and video the event. We put our lives in danger doing this, then we send it to the media, call all our friends and tell them ‘to watch the news that my video/picture’.

The phone distracts us from robbers and car jackers cause we are too busy talking about nothing while walking to our cars, going into the house, sitting at intersections. The phone takes away conversations in cars, everyone is on their phone talking, texting, reading e-mails. Cell phones interrupts conversations, we immediately take incoming calls, ignore the original person we were talking to, and start a new conversation with the caller, total disrespect.

Cell phones use to be the life saver for the injured or those that need help, now when someone gets shot, car accident, fires, we don’t call 911 or the police, we grab our cell phone and start taking pictures, start videoing and ignore the situation at hand.

Correct me if i'm wrong, is this the way we were raised? Not Me.

Will Redoubt give us another spectacular eruption or will it remind us the volcanos powerful forces. December 1989 and April 1990 the stratovolcano gave us a shake that was just breathtaking. Now scientists from the Alaska Volcano Observatory warned that an eruption was imminent.

From the past Redoubt's eruptions are generally explosive and produce lava flows as well as pyroclastic flow. Extremely explosive eruptions sends large quantities of ash high into the stratosphere. Redoubt is also known for it’s large tephra plume of volcanic ash that have reached altitudes of 7 to 12km. Minerals within volcanic ash are primarily derived from the magma.

The type of minerals within an ash deposit depends upon the chemistry of the magma from which it was erupted. Typical minerals by magma composition consists of CaO, SiO2, MgO, Al2O3, FetO3, Na2O, and S. Some metals including Mn, Ba, V, Zr Cu, Sr, and Zn may be present. Most minerals in ash will affect the composition of soil in the long term, possibly affecting livestock and agriculture. High values of allophane, organic C, Fe, Al, and Mn have been reported in glacial sediments. These minerals crystalized and grow within the magma.

Ash particles can be so fine that they are breathed deep into the lungs. Common symptoms are: airway irritation, hacking cough, chest complaints, Nasal irritation and discharge, wheezing, or shortness of breath. Breathing becomes uncomfortable, burning of the eyes, photosensitivity, eyes becoming painful, itchy or bloodshot. Acute conjunctivitis, sticky discharge or tearing.

So if Redoubt erupts take some precautions, refrain from driving and stay indoors if possible,
wear goggles or corrective eyeglasses, wear effective dust masks or a fabric mask from cloth, dampening the fabric with water will improve its effectiveness. Keep all doors and windows closed whenever possible. Plus with the media we have today, just sit back and watch the event on TV.

Church were talking about a plane that has a typical operating weight of 42.4 ton (metric) empty, and although the fuselage kept the aircraft afloat, water still entered the cabin, and you know somebody decided that he was not going to let the plane sink.

The plane could have exploded, nope! That didn’t happen. The pilot could have crashed in the city, nope! That didn’t happen. Anything could have happened the this plane and killed every last one of the passengers! But GOD had a different plan today. Church, did you see the video!, the passengers got out the plane and stood on the wings!!! Oh Help Me Now.... while ferries from NY Waterway came to help the passengers to safety.

Do you get what im saying? No one was injured, no one was suffering from hypothermia. Everyone was SAFE and Bedlam is going to add SAVED here. Bedlam sat there watching the screen as divers did a second check, for the all clear. Bedlam looks at Mrs. Bedlam saying "GOD IS GOOD". Tears rolled down her face, as she smiled as to say ‘Sure Is’.

CO intoxication also occurs by inhalation of methylene chloride vapors. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas produced by incomplete combustion of carbonaceous material. Natural gas contains no CO, but improperly vented gas water heaters, kerosene space heaters, charcoal grills, hibachis, and Sterno stoves all emit CO. People die accidentally every year from CO poisoning caused by malfunctioning or improperly used fuel-burning appliances.

CO binds to cardiac myoglobin with an even greater affinity than to hemoglobin; the resulting myocardial depression and hypotension exacerbates the tissue hypoxia. An ambient CO level of 100 ppm produces an HbCO of 16% at equilibration, which is enough to produce clinical symptoms. CO reversibly binds hemoglobin, resulting in relative anemia. Because it binds hemoglobin 230-270 times more avidly than oxygen, even small concentrations can result in significant levels of carboxyhemoglobin (HbCO). CO toxicity causes impaired oxygen delivery and utilization at the cellular level. CO has its most profound impact on the brain (brain lipid peroxidation and leukocyte-mediated inflammatory changes) and heart (cardiac metabolism) the highest oxygen requirement.

You can’t see or smell carbon monoxide, but at high levels CO can kill a person in minutes. Know the symptoms of CO poisoning. At moderate levels, you or your family can get severe headaches, become dizzy, mentally confused, nauseated, or faint. You can even die if these levels persist for a long time. Low levels can cause shortness of breath, mild nausea, and mild headaches, and may have longer term effects on your health. Since many of these symptoms are similar to those of the flu, food poisoning, or other illnesses, you may not think that CO poisoning could be the cause.

Seek medical care if symptoms are present . Explain that you think you may have been exposed to carbon monoxide. The doctor may give you oxygen until your symptoms go away and CO levels in your blood drop.

New Rules On Right-To-Carry In Our National Parks Take Effect Today

Friday, January 09, 2009: In early December, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, announced the final amended version of a change to rules on carrying firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. The change will restore the right of law-abiding gun owners to transport and carry concealed firearms for lawful purposes on most DOI lands, according to the laws of the states in which these public lands are located.

The new rule, which takes effect today, allows Right-to-Carry permit holders to carry concealed firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges in states that recognize their permits. The new rule will also put an end to the patchwork of regulations that governed different lands managed by different federal agencies. In the past, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service lands allowed the carrying of firearms, while lands managed by DOI did not.

The change was obviously necessary, given the passage of Right-to-Carry laws in so many states over the past two decades. As expected, of course, anti-gun activists are adamantly opposed to the new rule, and are already seeking to block the right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families while on DOI lands.

Not surprisingly, the first to jump on the "banned" wagon was the anti-gun Brady Campaign, in a lawsuit filed against the DOI in federal court, seeking to have the new rule struck down. The National Parks Conservation Association and the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees have also filed a similar suit.

Brady contends that people have a right to visit parks without fear of permit-holders carrying guns. The contention is ludicrous, of course, since to get to a park requires people to travel through places where permit-holders abound, without posing any threat whatsoever.

Using the same hyperbolic rhetoric and fear-mongering claims that are the mainstay of their anti-Right-to-Carry crusades, the Brady Campaign alleges that Right-to-Carry equals danger and violence, when countless studies and reams of data have repeatedly and consistently proved otherwise. Remember, the new rule will extend only to law-abiding citizens who have met the strict safety and background check requirements necessary to acquire a carry permit, and who are legally allowed to carry in the state in which the park is located.

Rest assured that NRA will do everything within its power to keep this important change on the books.

Friday 15 June 2007 Hamas took control of Gaza. The Arab League warned of a "disastrous outcome". Hamas won the parliamentary elections and formed a legitimate government. It was a day of major victories for Hamas and its backers in Iran and Syria. There is no doubt about what would happen over the coming months.

While Hamas is in control of Gaza and declaring Islamist rule on Israel's doorstep, the Palestinian quest for an independent state is on the verge of collapse. Fourteen years after the Oslo accords opened up the prospect of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza.

December ‘08 Hamas declared an end to a ceasefire with Israel, saying that the truce expiring on Friday will not be renewed.

The development lead to a violent new phase in the long conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants. After more than eight days of Israeli bombing and Hamas rocket launching in Gaza.

The invasion, to no one's surprise, did begin today.

The DIME Bomb (The Other Chemical Weapon)

Phosphorus weapons cause chemical burns and the Red Cross and human rights groups argue they should be treated as chemical weapons. Usage of this type of chemical ammunition causes burns and injuries in soft tissue and cannot be traced by X-ray.

This takes you back to the post I made about Depleted Uranium , but no one cared. Chemical or depleted uranium could be used in ammunition production. Banned weapons, including phosphorus incendiary bombs and vacuum bombs may be in use today, by both Israel and Hamas.

The use of chemical weapons against civilians or against military targets in civilian areas is outlawed by the Geneva Conventions.

Doctors in the past have reported wounds very similar to Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME). DIME is a carbon-encased missile that shatters on impact into minuscule splinters, at the same time setting off an explosive that shoots blades of energy-charged, heavy metal tungsten alloy (HMTA) powder, such as cobalt and nickel or iron, with a carbon fiber casing. It turns to dust on impact, as it loses inertia very quickly due to air resistance, burning and destroying through a very precise angulation everything within a four-meter range.

Tungsten, the main material that would stray outside of the target zone, is also said to be highly carcinogenic and harmful to the environment. Past samples has shown a very high concentration of carbon, as well as copper, aluminum and tungsten in the soil, leading to a question of DIME.

Since DIME is new, international law has not passed judgment on its legality, in other words,

DIME would be the perfect weapon.

If you live in an area with a cold and icy winter, you have probably experienced salt on sidewalks and roads, used to melt the ice and snow and keep it from refreezing. Salt is also used to make homemade ice cream. In both cases, the salt works by lowering the melting or freezing point of water. The effect is termed 'freezing point depression'.

How Freezing Point Depression Works

When you add salt to water, you introduce dissolved foreign particles into the water. The freezing point of water becomes lower as more particles are added until the point where the salt stops dissolving. For a solution of table salt (sodium chloride, NaCl) in water, this temperature is -21°C (-6°F) under controlled lab conditions. In the real world, on a real sidewalk, sodium chloride can melt ice only down to about -9°C (15°F).

Colligative Properties

Freezing point depression is a colligative property of water. A colligative property is one which depends on the number of particles in a substance. All liquid solvents with dissolved particles (solutes) demonstrate colligative properties. Other colligative properties include boiling point elevation, vapor pressure lowering, and osmotic pressure.

More Particles Mean More Melting Power

Sodium chloride isn't the only salt used for de-icing, nor is it necessarily the best choice. Sodium chloride dissolves into two types of particles: one sodium ion and one chloride ion per sodium chloride 'molecule'. A compound that yields more ions into a water solution would lower the freezing point of water more than salt. For example, calcium chloride (CaCl₂) dissolves into three ions (one of calcium and two of chloride) and lowers the freezing point of water more than sodium chloride. Depleted Uranium

Radiological dirty bombs has moved well beyond the plotting and
shooting stage, and has produced dire consequences. Toxic, radioactive uranium-238, called depleted uranium may be responsible for deadly health
consequences.

Depleted uranium "penetrators" as they are called burn on impact and up to 70 percent of the DU is released (aerosolized) as toxic and radioactive dust that can be inhaled and ingested and later trapped in the lungs or kidneys.

These uranium oxide particles emit all types of radiation: alpha, beta and gamma, and can be carried in the air over long distances.

DU is left after uranium ore has gone through the gaseous diffusion process that removes most of the fissionable isotope U-235. DU is used in munitions for piercing armor plate.

The most serious exposure to DU occurs when a large amount is taken into the body, absorbed by the blood, and then carried to tissues and organs where it can do damage. There are three
primary ways that DU can enter your body. They are by ingestion (drinking or eating), inhalation (breathing dust), and through wound contamination or DU fragments embedded in the body. Skin contact or being near intact DU munitions or armored tanks will not cause this type of exposure or bring DU into your body. DU dust can be inhaled during and immediately after DU munitions have struck a vehicle or if DU munitions are involved in a fire on the battlefield. DU dust can also be inhaled by people in or around armored vehicles after they are damaged by DU munitions. People near the crash of some aircraft may also be exposed to DU dusts from burning counterweights if the DU is exposed to prolonged intense heat.

Since kidneys remove uranium, urine tests can identify when people have been exposed to higher than normal amounts of uranium, including depleted uranium.

While the term "depleted" implies it isn't dangerous, depleted uranium is still radioactive and
chemically toxic.

Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941

The December 7, 1941 Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor was one of the great defining moments in history.

Two Army operators at Oahu's northern shore radar station detect the Japanese air attack approaching and contact a junior officer who disregards their reports, thinking they are American B-17 planes which are expected in from the U.S. west coast.

The attacking planes came in two waves; the first with 51 'Val' dive bombers, 40 'Kate' torpedo bombers, 50 high level bombers and 43 'Zero' fighters, commences the attack with flight commander, Mitsuo Fuchida, sounding the battle cry: "Tora! Tora! Tora!" (Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!). The second wave targets other ships and shipyard facilities.

The air raid lasts until 9:45 a.m. Eight battleships are damaged, with five sunk. Three light cruisers, three destroyers and three smaller vessels are lost along with 188 aircraft. Within a short time five of eight battleships at Pearl Harbor were sunk or sinking, with the rest damaged.

Behind them they left chaos, 2,403 dead, 188 destroyed planes and a crippled Pacific Fleet that included 8 damaged or destroyed battleships.

The casualty list includes 2,335 servicemen and 68 civilians killed, with 1,178 wounded. Included are 1,104 men aboard the Battleship USS Arizona killed after a 1,760-pound air bomb penetrated into the forward magazine causing catastrophic explosions.

America, unprepared and now considerably weakened, was abruptly brought into the Second World War as a full combatant.

Cholera, a waterborne disease that causes diarrhea, dehydration and, if not treated, death in a matter of hours. Zimbabwe warns that the contagious disease is spreading fast since raw sewage from burst pipes near the capital, Harare, flowed into wells, rivers and streams, the only source of drinking water for many Zimbabweans.

One way of getting clean drinking water is the SkyHydrant. The design is compact, robust and self-cleaning. It is intended for efficient transport and deployment with minimal training and operator interface. The system works by pumping water through approximately 20,000 ultra-fine fibers, a process that removes all pathogens with diameters of over 0.1 micrometers. The system doesn’t require electric power or purification chemicals. One is used at the Gona Dam in Kenya.

In Zimbabwe at least 565 people have lost their lives in the outbreak, according to a statement from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Wednesday. More than 1,000 have died. The U.N. says that about 12,000 more people are suspected to be infected. Lets see how quick a portable water purification system will be sent to Zimbabwe or any country that has outbreaks of diarrhea, cholera, and typhus.

Peptide nucleic acids (PNA) are synthetic DNA analogues or mimics with a polyamide backbone instead of a sugar phosphate bone. The significant of this post is the importance to biosensing, PNAs exhibit superior hybridization characteristics and improved chemical and enzymatic stability compared to nucleic acids. Both double and triple stranded complexes are capable of being formed by PNA in association with nucleotides the negatively charged ribosephosphate backbone of nucleic acids is replaced by an uncharged N-(2-aminoethyl)-glycine scaffold to which the nucleobases are attached via a methylene carbonyl linker.

The neutral amide backbone also enables PNA to hybridize to DNA molecules in lowsalt conditions because no positive ions are necessary for counteracting the interstrand repulsion that hampers duplex formation between two negatively charged nucleic acids. Consequently, the abundance and stability of intramolecular folding structures in the DNA or RNA analytes are significantly reduced, making the molecules more accessible to complementary PNA oligomers. Because the intramolecular distances and configuration of the nucleobases are similar to those of natural DNA molecules, specific hybridization occurs between PNAs and cDNA or RNA sequences.

The uncharged nature of PNAs is responsible for a better thermal stability of PNA–DNA duplexes compared with DNA–DNA equivalents and, as a result, single-base mismatches have a considerably more destabilizing effect As with DNA, the decrease in duplex stability depends on the position of the mismatch within the sequence. Thus, the use of PNAs will contribute significantly to establishment of faster and more reliable biosensing applications. PNAs have now been used to replace DNA to functionalize gold nanoparticles and, upon hybridization to complementary DNA strands and formation of nanoparticle aggregates, resulted in (1) a red-to-blue color transition and (2) high discrimination of DNA single-base mismatches. PNAs are stable across a wide range of temperatures and pHs. Of significant importance in clinical samples, PNAs are resistant to nucleases and proteases. In contrast to DNA molecular beacons, stemless PNA beacons are less sensitive to ionic strength and the quenched fluorescence of PNA is not affected by DNAbinding proteins. This enables the use of PNA beacons under conditions that are not feasible for DNA beacons.

The very different nature of PNA molecular structure enables new modes of detection, especially procedures that avoid the introduction of a label. The change of color results from the shift of surface plasmon band upon aggregation and this property is now the basis of colorimetric biosensors for selective detection of DNA. PNA functionized gold nanoparticles have been shown to be simple, highly sensitive and selective. Xi and coworkers used DNA and PNA molecular beacons to detect and quantify rRNA in solution and in whole cells. Of clinical relevance, PNA molecular beacons are ideal tools for detection of whole bacteria in solution and in real time. Xi and coworkers use real-time confocal microscopy to detect the fluorescence emitted from DNA and PNA molecular beacons in microfluidic systems.

This weeks attacks in Mumbai were claimed by a previously unknown group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen. If you look at the pattern of the attacks suggests that Lashkar-e-Taiba, a nasty Islamist organization based in Lahore, Pakistan, and with a significant presence in Kashmir and links to al Qaeda, may be to blame. For now, all intelligence agencies are claiming Deccan Mujahideen for the attacks.

Deccan means South in Hindi and refers to the Deccan Plateau. Mujahideen means "strugglers" in Arabic, but is also the word used by militant groups referring to fighters, members, and terrorists. Most of the terrorists appear to be men in their early 20s, speaking both Hindi and Urdu, the national languages of India and Pakistan.

A group calling itself the "Indian Mujahideen" has claimed responsibility for attacks in a number of different cities over the past several months. The Indian Mujahideen sent a warning in September expressing anger over recent raids by the city's antiterrorism squad.

Something to notice is the unusual feature of the Mumbai assault is that they came in the from the sea, highly organized, armed with grenades, assault rifles, and other weaponry. Then the terrorists used small, high speed boats for their landing.

The group took credit for the attacks in the letter, stateing the "continuing injustice against the Muslims" as their reasoning for the violence.

Army attacks Mumbai’s Taj Mahal hotel

The Indian military launched a grenade attack Friday on Mumbai's Taj Mahal Hotel to flush out at least one militant who returned fire, scattering media assembled opposite the building.

Four grenades were launched into a part of the hotel where the militant or militants were believed to be hiding.

More US troops for Kabul

A brigade of 3,500-4,000 extra US troops due in Pak-Afghan border in January will be deployed to stop infiltration of militants. The brigade has been approved as part of requested US troop reinforcements for Afghanistan's fight against extremists that could amount to about 20,000 personnel. The first brigade will go into the Nato-led RC-East to stop militants entering Afghanistan. "Operation Lionheart" was launched this month along the border. The Afghan officials have called for extra troops on the border to fight a growing Taliban-led insurgency. The gamma ray spectrometer, activity concentrations of the natural radionuclides of the uranium and thorium series, 40K and a fission product 137Cs were investigated in the soil samples from saline patch of Rakh Dera Chal near the city of Lahore.

The average values of specific gamma ray activities due to 137Cs, 40K, 232Th and 226Ra and the activity levels were found to fallow the normal distribution. Three most important primordial radionuclides investigated in the area of interest were 40K, 226Ra and 232Th. Natural potassium has three isotopes; 39K, 40K and 41K, among them only 40K (T1/2 = 1.3x109 yr) possesses natural gamma radioactivity and its
abundance in nature is 0.012 % of all Potassium.

During decay 40K produces two daughter products with the emission of beta and gamma radiation they are 40Ca and 40Ar. Testing the use of fertilizers in large extent have affected radio nuclides concentration, specially potassium containing fertilizers are the one of the cause of presence of high activity of 40K in soils. The high value of 40K may be also due to their soil origin. The concentration range of 40K in soil was 524.8–601.6 Bq kg-1 with and average value of 561.6 Bq kg-1.

The other naturally occurring radionuclides measured were 226Ra and 232Th. Radium-226 (a member of 238U series) is considered as 'the highly radiotoxic natural radionuclide'. The range of measured activity
of 226Ra was 24.7Å|28.2 Bq kg-1 with an average of 25.8 Bq kg-1. The range of measured specific activity of 232Th (T1/2 = 1.4 x 1010 yr) was 45.5Å|52.6 Bq kg-1 with an average of 49.2 Bq kg-1. The average activity value of 232Th was two times higher than that of 226Ra. The activity concentration of 40K in soil is order of magnitude higher than that of 226Ra and 232Th.

The activity of 137Cs in all the samples was found below the lowest limit of detection. Im suggesting the reasons of non existence of 137Cs in the soil of Rakh Dera Chal may be that the trees and grass in the land might have provided shield to the land for the reach of 137Cs (from the nuclear fall) to the land. The grass contaminated with 137Cs might have been grazed by the cattles and most of the remaining 137Cs would have been eroded by rain, wind, etc. The decay of naturally occurring radionuclides in soil produces a gamma–beta radiation fields in soil that also crosses the soil–air interface to produce exposures to humans. External exposures outdoors arise from terrestrial radionuclides present at trace levels in all soils. The external gamma dose rate in air is calculated from measurement of concentration of the relevant radionuclide in soil.

New addition to the arsenal, the Knight SMG or PP-19-01 "Vityaz". I got to admit this is a dandy.

The PP-19-01 is based on the AKS-74U compact assault rifle, with simple blowback action. Apparently it’s a standard kalashnikov receiver that’s been converted to a 9mm length magazine well and a blowback bolt. Sort of like 9mm AR-15 conversions.

It’s related to the bizon SMG, except that it uses conventional box magazines rather than the bizon’s helical feed magazines. Some call it ‘AK-9’. The ‘Vityaz’ uses more conventional box magazines and fires more powerful 9x19 ammunition. The bolt system is of simple blowback type, and gun is fired from closed bolt, utilizing standard AK-type trigger and safety / fire selector subsystems.

Cleaning is simple, compared to the other sub’s. I would love to get the H&K MP5 chambered for .40 S&W.

However this one is a little better. Move Over UZI.

Two Mid-South men plot to kill Obama

Two Mid-South men with strong white-supremacy beliefs are in custody In Memphis, Tennessee after planning a state-to-state killing spree that included assassinating Barack Obama, the two also targeted 88 black citizens and beheading 14 blacks. The numbers 88 and 14 have special significance within the 'White Power' movement.

Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., near Jackson, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark., hatched their plan after they met on the Internet last month and discussed their shared interest in "White Power" and "Skinhead" philosophies.

Schlesselman states that they planned to drive their vehicle as fast as they could toward Obama, shooting at him from the windows. Both individuals stated they would dress in all-white tuxedos and wear top hats during the assassination attempt. Both individuals further stated they knew they would and were willing to die during this attempt. They wrote racially motivated words and symbols on Cowart's vehicle, including a Swastika and the numbers 14 and 88. The numbers are symbols in skinhead culture, referring to a 14-word phrase attributed to an imprisoned white supremacist: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children" and to the eighth letter of the alphabet, H. Two 8's or H's stand for "Heil Hitler.

The two men are charged with making threats against a major candidate for the office of president, conspiracy to rob a federal firearms licensee and possession of a sawed-off shotgun. They were arrested Wednesday in Crockett County, appeared in federal court Monday in Memphis. They are in custody and have a hearing Thursday when a judge will determine whether to set a bond.

Bedlam has participated in many machine gun shoot, and still cannot figure why they would let juniors handle this type of weapon. A great deal of safety it presented during these events and there are a number of certified instructors on the range during active fire.

Westfield police said, "it appears the incident was purely accidental," Bedlam says accidental or not a young child is dead from a gun. Bedlam is a member of NRA and supports gun rights for Americans, Bedlam does not support gun carelessness.

Philip J. Berg, Esquire, the Attorney who filed suit against Barack H. Obama challenging Senator Obama's lack of "qualifications" to serve as President of the United States, announced today that he is immediately appealing the dismissal of his case to the United States Supreme Court. The case is Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-04083.

This is a question of who has standing to uphold our Constitution. If I don't have standing, if you don't have standing, if your neighbor doesn't have standing to question the eligibility of an individual to be President of the United States - the Commander-in-Chief, the most powerful person in the world - then who does?

So, anyone can just claim to be eligible for congress or the presidency without having their legal status, age or citizenship questioned.

According to Judge Surrick, we the people have no right to police the eligibility requirements under the U.S. Constitution.

What happened to ‘...Government of the people, by the people, for the people,...' Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address 1863.

We must legally prevent Obama, the unqualified candidate, from taking the Office of the Presidency of the United States," Berg said.

Berg again stressed his position regarding the urgency of this case as, "we" the people, are heading to a "Constitutional Crisis" if this case is not resolved forthwith.

Rudy Ray Moore (March 17, 1937 - October 19, 2008) was an American comedian, musician, singer, film actor, and film producer. He is perhaps best known as Dolemite, the uniquely articulate pimp from the 1975 film Dolemite, and its sequel, The Human Tornado. The persona was developed during his earlier stand-up comedy records.

Moore began his entertainment career as an R&B singer and continued singing through his comedy career. He developed an interest in comedy in the Army after expanding on a singing performance for other servicemen.

Rudy Ray Moore released many comedy records throughout the 1960s and 1970s, developing a style even more rude and explicit than contemporaries like Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor. This kept him off of television and major films, but cultivated an enduring fan base.

He also guested on Big Daddy Kane's album Taste of Chocolate, released in 1990. He is from Cleveland Ohio.

Moore starred in Big Money Hustlas, a movie created by and starring the Insane Clown Posse, in which he played Dolemite for the first time in over 20 years.

In 2008 Rudy Ray Moore reprised the character Petey Wheatstraw for the song "I Live For The Funk" Featuring Blowfly and Daniel Jordan. This marked the first time Blowfly and Rudy have collaborated on the same record together, and the 30 year anniversary of the movie Petey Wheatstraw.

Doctors Warn Over Rash from Excessive Cell Phone Use

Clinicial testing revealed the reaction was caused by nickel in the mobile phone handsets, where it is often found in the casing or buttons, particularly in the most fashionable models.

Bisphenol A - a chemical used to make a wide variety of plastic goods, including most baby bottles, may not be safe. It's called bisphenol-A, or BPA. Tests involving lab rats and mice have shown that even small amounts of exposure to Bisphenol A can lead to a range of serious ailments. Bisphenol A. is found in all kinds of common products, mostly polycarbonate plastics (baby bottles to water cooler jugs, bicycle helmets, CDs and the lining inside tin cans)

Animal studies have linked Bisphenol A to low sperm count, hyperactivity, early puberty, obesity, small testes size, and enlarged prostates.

Three things to know about the study:
* It doesn't actually demonstrate any health hazard. It only looked at the genetic effects of Bisphenol A on mice, and not at whether it caused reproductive problems or deformed embryos.
* The techniques used in the study don't necessarily predict actual harm in animals or humans.
* The study does not show that the effects seen are relevant to humans.

In a recent study, fetal umbilical blood shows higher Bisphenol A levels than was generated in mice. Human exposure levels are already high. More than 90 percent of us have it in our body and the question is: is it safe. Many scientists believe it can act like the hormone estrogen, and animal studies have linked it with breast, prostate and reproductive system problems and some cancers.

Several states are considering restricting Bisphenol A use, some manufacturers have begun promoting Bisphenol A-free baby bottles, and some stores are phasing out baby products containing the chemical.

Clean the house, house dust-associated bacterial endotoxins have been shown to be associated with asthma severity, and a similar role has been suggested for fungal (1->3)-ß-D-glucans. Dust samples were collected from mattresses and from living room and bedroom floors, and endotoxin and (1->3)-ß-D-glucans were measured in dust extracts. The relations with mean daily PEF variability (Ampl%mean) were investigated by linear regression analysis, adjusting for dust mite allergen levels, presence of pets, and type of floor cover. In unadjusted analyses the levels of both endotoxin and (1->3)-ß-D-glucans per square meter of living room floor were significantly associated with PEF-variability. Adjusted analyses showed the same association for (1->3)-ß-D-glucans but not for endotoxin. Filters and all the dust collected on the filter, were extracted at room temperature with pyrogen-free distilled water containing 0.05% Tween-20 , and after centrifugation and collection of the supernatant, redissolved in an identical volume of the same medium (H2O-Tween) and extracted at 120° C to solubilize (1->3)-ß-D-glucans.

A supernatant was used to measure endotoxin in a chromogenic kinetic Limulus Amoebocyte Lysate (LAL) test, using one single lot of the LAL reagent. (1->3)-ß-D-glucans was measured in a second supernatant with a (1->3)-ß-D-glucans-specific inhibition enzyme immunoassay (EIA), using affinity-purified polyclonal rabbit anti-(1->3)-ß-D-glucans antibodies, and laminarin [a linear (1->3)-ß-D-glucans] as the coated antigen and calibration standard. Bedlam says, the major house dust mite allergen Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p1) was measured in the first extract, with a Der p1-specific, monoclonal antibody-based, sandwich EIA. Because H2O-Tween is not commonly used for extraction of Der p1, control experiments were performed with a series of duplicate house dust samples that were extracted with either H2O-Tween or with buffered saline.

All this to say, exposure to house-dust-associated (1->3)-ß-D-glucans in the home environment may increase peak flow variability in asthmatic children. Although (1->3)-ß-D-glucans can be derived from both plant and fungal material, and thus can not be used as a highly specific marker for mold growth, the here-reported association may be one of the major mechanisms accounting for the relation between dampness and fungal growth in the home environment, and respiratory morbidity.

August 21, 2007 - Memorabilia dealer Thomas Riccio tells FBI agents that Simpson wants to televise a confrontation with a collector he believes is selling stolen Simpson memorabilia.

September 12 - Simpson checks into The Palms hotel-casino for a friend's wedding and parties late at a casino nightclub.

September 13 - Simpson is secretly recorded discussing with former golf friends a plan to take sports memorabilia from dealers Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong.

About 7.30pm, Simpson leads a group of five men who rush into a hotel room at the Palace Station casino and seize items at gunpoint from Beardsley and Fromong. The six-minute incident is secretly recorded. Mr Beardsley and Mr Fromong report an armed robbery. Simpson is questioned at the Palms hotel.

September 14 - Police name Simpson as the target of their investigation and question him again. Simpson insists no guns were involved and some of the items belonged to him.

September 15 - Simpson attends the wedding of his friend, Tom Scotto, at the Little White Wedding Chapel as one of the others involved, Walter "Goldie" Alexander, is arrested and charged with assault and armed robbery.

September 16 - Police arrest Simpson at The Palms and he is held at the Clark County jail on armed robbery, assault and conspiracy charges after a judge refuses bail.

September 17 - Simpson's co-defendant Clarence "CJ" Stewart surrenders to police, turns over items believed to be taken from Mr Beardsley and Mr Fromong, and is released on 78,000 dollar (£44,113) bail. Mr Fromong suffers a heart attack.
